Three Days
The work on this film started in late 2008, when “Ledo Takas” invited me to make a documentary about a disbanded black metal band Dissimulation. I knew the band, I liked what they did, and I said I could do it as long as it didn’t have to be a talking-heads-in-the-grey-backdrop documentary.
We started shooting in January 2009, with -15 Celsius outside, in Anykščiai region, trying to make the characters open up at the bonfire; but the result felt staged. I wasn’t really happy with it. So when the band released the news about getting together to play their last gig in an open-air metal music festival that would take place at the city they were born in, as people and as a band, there was no doubt that this is the best chance we’ll all have at making the film.
For three days before their last-ever (or so they thought) live gig, I was with them in their rehearsal room, in their car, in their lives, backstage, on their after-gig tripping. This time, they did not play some characters; they just went on being themselves, while having the camera crew and me hanging around.
A disclosure, a tight relationship, trust, hope, highs and lows, the essential of relating within the band was the outcome of the days along their path.
